The Senhouse Roman Museum is based in a building known as the Battery (a Royal Naval Artillery drill hall) perched on cliff top known locally as the sea brows to the north end of Maryport.
The collection, which was begun by the Senhouse family in the 1570’s is of international importance featuring the best collection of roman altars to be found anywhere in Britain. In the Museum grounds, you can climb the observation tower for a view of the adjacent Roman fort and civilian settlement site.
